Alla scoperta del mese di "Giulietto" e di altri curiosi modi di dire

Cari amici di CastelvetranoNews, come sempre ben trovati! Questa volta, però, per i saluti finali! E sì, perché almeno per un pò, Siculamente andrà in vacanza. E sapete perché? Perché siamo già arrivati a metà anno ed in particolare, come mi ricordava qualche giorno fa mio nonno, siamo già giunti al mese di “Giulietto”. Ma attenzione!

Non alludo mica al fratello gemello della Giulietta resa celebre da Shakespeare per la sua difficile e tragica storia d’amore con Romeo! Assolutamente niente affatto! Mi riferisco bensì al settimo mese dell’anno, a quello che per noi italiani corrisponde al mese di “Luglio” e che per gli antichi dominatori francesi, nonché moderni cugini transalpini, equivale al mese di “Juillet”.

In questo periodo di grande difficoltà e tristezza per l’Italia ed il mondo intero, seppur in maniera virtuale, abbiamo avuto l’opportunità di visitare incantevoli località siciliane che ci hanno portato a conoscenza di svariate realtà linguistiche con cui quotidianamente ci confrontiamo.

Abbiamo goduto dei paesaggi mozzafiato dell’Etna, dei Monti Iblei, delle meraviglie di Marsala e Pantelleria; abbiamo conosciuto dammusi, favare e masserie; abbiamo deliziato le nostre narici ed i nostri palati con ottimi vini, salsiccia, frutta fresca e frutta secca; abbiamo anche esplorato i luoghi del Commissario Montalbano e per finire anche i vicoletti, i quartieri ed i luoghi più caratteristici di Chiaramonte Gulfi, la mia piccola ma altrettanto carina cittadina, pronta ad accogliervi tutti.  Di settimana in settimana ho insomma cercato di svelarvi qualche piccola ma simpatica curiosità!

E a farci compagnia in questa avventura sono stati gli Arabi, i Francesi e gli Spagnoli, popolazioni dalle quali la Sicilia è stata per secoli dominata e grazie alle quali, però, siamo riusciti a creare la nostra identità culturale e la nostra appartenenza territoriale. Un salto indietro nel tempo, un tuffo nel passato, un fantastico viaggio attraverso cui abbiamo scoperto le origini storiche ed etimologiche di numerosi termini, espressioni e toponimi siciliani. 

Non posso tuttavia lasciarvi senza prima regalarvi un’ultima chicca! Voglio infatti salutarvi in compagnia dei Francesi ma soprattutto in compagnia di un bel “tabbarè” pieno di “gatò” e di “vasuni”. Beh! Chiaro, no? In compagnia di un bel “tabarin” stracolmo di “gâteaux” e di “ bisous”, ossia di un bel “vassoio” strapieno di “dolci, biscotti” e “baci”.  A tutti voi, miei cari ed affezionati lettori di #Siculamente, dico grazie per avermi seguito in questa magnifica avventura ed auguro di trascorrere una piacevole e bella estate!

Dear friends of CastelvetranoNews, as always well found! This time, however, for the final greetings! Yes, because at least for a while, #Siculamente will go on holiday. And do you know why? Because we have already reached the middle of the year and in particular, as my grandfather reminded me a few days ago, we have already reached the month of “Giulietto”. But be careful! I am not referring to the twin brother of the Giulietta made famous by Shakespeare for her difficult and tragic love affair with Romeo! Not at all! I am referring to the seventh month of the year, to what for English people corresponds to the month of “July” and that for the ancient French rulers is the month of  “Juillet”. In a period of big difficulty crossed by Italy and the whole world, albeit in a virtual way, #Siculamente gave us the opportunity to visit enchanting Sicilian places that brought us to the knowledge of various dialectal linguistic realities with which we daily face. We enjoyed the breathtaking landscapes of Etna and the Iblei Mountains, the wonders of Marsala and Pantelleria; we knew dammusi, favare and masserie; we delighted our nostrils and palates with excellent wines, dishes, fresh and dried fruit; we also explored the places of the Commissioner Montalbano and to finish the alleys, the neighborhoods and the most characteristic places of Chiaramonte Gulfi, my small but equally nice town, ready to welcome you all. In short, week by week we discovered some small but nice curiosities! And, in this adventure, we were in the company of the Arab, the French and the Spanish, populations from which Sicily has been dominated for centuries and thanks to which, however, we managed to create our cultural identity and our territorial belonging. A jump back in time, a dive into the past, a fantastic journey through which we learned about the historical and etymological origins of several Sicilian terms, expressions and toponyms. However, could I leave you without giving you one last curiosity? Absolutely not! And in fact I want to greet you in the company of our French friends and especially in the company of a nice “tabbarè” full of “gatò” and “vasuni”. Well, it is clear, isn't it? In the company of a nice “tabarin” full of “gateaux” and “bisous”, that is a nice “tray” full of “sweets, biscuits” and “kisses”.
